Useful Information

Planning a trip to Nepal is exciting and rewarding. To help you travel smoothly, here are some important things every traveler should know before visiting.
Most international travelers can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival in Nepal. Visa services are available at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu as well as at designated land border entry points.

Tourist visas are generally issued for 15, 30, or 90 days. Visitors must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry and provide passport-size photographs along with the applicable visa fee. Payments are typically accepted in major foreign currencies.

Travelers also have the option to complete an online visa application prior to arrival to reduce waiting time at immigration checkpoints.

Citizens of India enjoy visa-free entry into Nepal and may travel using a valid passport or voter identification card.
Nepal shares open land borders with India, allowing convenient overland travel. The most commonly used border crossings include Sunauli Border, Raxaul–Birgunj Border, Kakarbhitta Border, and Banbasa–Mahendranagar Border. These entry points connect Nepal with major Indian cities and are frequently used by regional travelers.
Nepal is widely regarded as an affordable destination suitable for various travel styles. Daily expenses depend on accommodation standards, transportation choices, and planned activities such as trekking or guided tours.

Budget travelers can comfortably explore Nepal with modest daily expenses, while mid-range and luxury travelers will find a wide range of hotels, resorts, and personalized travel services available throughout the country.
The official currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Cash remains the primary mode of payment, particularly in rural areas and trekking regions. ATMs and money exchange services are readily available in major tourist hubs such as Kathmandu and Pokhara, while credit cards are accepted in many hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies.
Visitors are encouraged to carry copies of important documents, including passports and visas, throughout their journey. Travel insurance covering medical emergencies and high-altitude activities is strongly recommended, especially for trekking and adventure travel.

Drinking bottled or purified water is advised, and travelers should remain mindful of local customs, religious practices, and environmental conservation guidelines. Weather conditions, particularly in mountainous areas, can change rapidly, making proper preparation essential.
Nepal can be visited year-round; however, spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are considered the most favorable seasons due to clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and excellent mountain visibility. These periods are especially popular for trekking and outdoor activities.
Tourists can easily purchase local SIM cards upon arrival with passport identification. Mobile networks and internet services are widely available in cities and many trekking regions, ensuring convenient communication during travel.
